The New Project

So we sold the '71 C10 yesterday to a very excited 16 year old kid. It reminded me of myself when I was that age. And of course today we bought a new project: a 1968 Jeepster Commando. I have always loved Jeeps. This will be the 4th one we have owned. My sister had a '91 Wrangler (that I drove more then she did) and in the four years Candi and I have been married I have bought and sold two other Jeeps, a '98 Wrangler and a '03 Wrangler. It was definitely time for another one.

We bought a blue 1968 Jeepster Commando with 67k original miles. This model was Jeep's attempt to compete with the popular Ford Bronco and International Scout of the 1960's. The set up is simalar to the CJ5 but with a longer wheel base. It has the original Dauntless V6 that runs well and standard three speed trans. It also has locking hubs and the four wheel drive is in working order. Besides one crumpled fender the body is stright and free of rust except for the floor boards up front. It originally had a white fiberglass hard top and later was fitted with a soft top but currently has no top. Needless to say, it will stay in the garage. It needs new bulbs, but the lights and blinkers all work. Overall this should be a fun build.

We are thinking it would look good in red and white paint but the seats are in good shape so we may go with some shade of blue. Candi really likes the look of the old school white wall tires, and I hope to find a roll bar to hold up a bikini top in the Texas heat.
